Hey Hardworking Dad, We See All That You Do. Here's To Us, From Your Dadbud

The following story came straight from the first-ever Smart Parenting daddy editor-at-large, and the man behind the DadbudPH Facebook community, with over 55,000 member dads as of writing.

Smart Parenting's advocacy, now more than ever, is to include dads in parenting conversations. We want to provide a judgment-free space where dads can voice out their unique points of view, whether majority agrees or not. Smart Parenting remains a platform that's  pro-parents, and that includes dads.

So I’ve had this title of dad for three years and 65 days and I must say, it beats all the big accomplishments I’ve had in the past. Being called Dad, Papa, Tatay, Pops, or Erps is definitely the best thing that has ever happened to me. So what’s the biggie? Why do I look forward to this one day that we celebrate in a year called Father’s Day?

You know, a parent's job is the most unconditional role we humans could ever take on. Giving a part of your life to another human being and making sure that he or she grows up to have the best life possible is the ultimate sacrifice. This is the best responsibility for any person, to parent. #BestJobintheWorld

I often hear women say that “it’s Father’s Day every day” and honestly, I think this is a bad generalization. There are so many men, dads who are hustle everyday and give their all just to be able to give their families a comfortable life. It can be easy to discredit some men because of our assigned gender roles.

Father is the provider and this is a duty he needs to fulfill so there is really nothing special about it. It's a sad result of the portrayal of genders in the context of the family. Tatay ka, kaya trabaho mo yan. #dapatlang

This is a statement I hear until today with regards to the struggles we men go through when we try our best to support our families. The struggle is real ladies and gentlemen and today, more and more men suffer from mental health issues because we think of nothing else but the welfare of our families.

'It is no longer just about us or our partners, but for everyone around us, we need to raise good human beings for our society.' -Joey Ong

This may not apply to all and before you even say “Sana all”, let us consider that being a jerk is genderless. And as much as there are men who do not deserve to be called dads, there are many of us who deserve this celebration. A nice pat on the back would be nice instead of saying that what we do daily, just falls in the bare minimum. I am 100% sure that every good dad out there would dream of nothing but a peaceful home with a healthy family and a bright future for our kids. So let me say it now: You dads reading this who are trying your best, you guys rock and you deserve this. Good job, buddy!

Fatherhood or the opportunity to raise a child into a adult who is good definitely deserves to be celebrated. Being a Dad gives us a chance to mold a person to be better than us, or to be a better version of ourselves. And this is a gift worth sharing and celebrating. In my three plus years of being a dad, I’ve grown so close to the idea that our roles in this planet changes the moment we become parents. It is no longer just about us or our partners, but for everyone around us, we need to raise good human beings for our society. This duty is a blessing and if you dads agree with this then again, good job to you! We are the builders of our children’s characters so they may one day contribute good to the world.

It’s not easy. Raising a child is never easy and often we hear so many parents complaining about the struggles that we need to overcome. But the daily reward of seeing our children happy makes it all so worth it. I’m sure every parent reading this can agree to the instantly recharged good vibes that we get when we come home after a long day at work and we are greeted by our children. Best feeling in the world that is deserving of an annual celebration we call Father’s Day.

We pay tribute to the struggles but we should also celebrate what is beautiful about our everyday lives. Those core memory moments when we hear our kids giggle or when they ask us those nonsense questions. Those times they tire us too much that we have to catch our breaths. The never-ending “carry me, Daddy” moments.

One day soon we will look back and remember only the good days to get us by. Those wonderful moments we celebrate that makes everyone else feel as if yes, everyday does feel like Father’s Day.
