If only first-time parents could foresee what life's going to be like after the birth of their child, then everyone would've welcomed the idea of a babymoon.

Never heard of the term? Think of it as a honeymoon but done before your baby arrives. It is usually a couple's trip to have some quality time together, even before you officially become parents.

Recently, pregnant celebrity mamas Maja Salvador and Kryz Uy went on separate babymoon trips with their respective husbands.

Maja and her husband Rambo Nuñez marked their first anniversary and babymoon in Amangiri, a luxury five-star hotel in Utah.

According to Maja, she is already "marching" into third trimester, and experts say, it's the best time for a babymoon.

Meanwhile, Kryz and her husband, Slater Young, were able to cherish their sweet time together, sans their two sons, in Japan. Kryz said she's grateful to Slater for his patience in keeping up with her pace and letting her have the luxury to walk and sit throughout their trip.

Is a babymoon necessary?

For Smart Parenting section editor and mom of two Em Cruz, she and her husband had a babymoon while she was pregnant with her first child. "It was a last hurrah of our days as a couple, and to relax for a few days, because even then we had an idea how chaotic childbirth and the newborn stage can be," she said.

They also decided to have a babymoon before giving birth to their second child, as their last bonding session with their eldest as an only child. "We thought it's a good way to fill up her love tank before we get too busy caring for her sister. I think having a babymoon is a good way to just enjoy the last few days of the season we were in before we welcomed our baby," she explained.

Regina Layug Rosero, mom of one and a Smart Parenting contributing writer, recalled why she and her husband went on a babymoon trip. "It felt like a good time to be by ourselves, away from the world, to enjoy ourselves and each other, before the frantic pace of actual parenthood began."

Some moms, meanwhile, say that they opted to skip the babymoon so that they can use their travel funds for the childbirth expenses instead.

What to do and where to go for a babymoon in the Philippines?

It's totally understandable for couples to put all of their savings into preparation for the baby's arrival. However, if you feel like a babymoon would be a great time for you and your partner to have some alone time before all the sleepless nights, breastfeeding struggles, and diaper changes, then you may want to consider going on a local trip versus a costly trip abroad.

Here are some recommended places to go in the Philippines for a short but equally relaxing babymoon trip.

1. Go on a staycation in Subic or Tagaytay.

Both Subic and Tagaytay are just a few hours drive from Manila, and you don't have to go far for that needed peace and quiet. Plus, there are a lot of nearby spots to walk around and eat. Former beauty queen Miriam Quiambao and her husband Ardy Roberto had their short babymoon in Tagaytay to avoid long trips due to Miriam's high-risk pregnancy.

2. Have a lovely beach trip in Batangas.

Vitamin sea is always a good idea. If you prefer to go south, the nearest beach resorts are located in Batangas.

3. Enjoy the breathtaking views in Palawan.

Actress Angelica Panganiban and Gregg Homan had their babymoon in Amanpulo, a luxury beach resort in Palawan. A three-night stay in this private island here would cost you around $6,000 or Php 348,000.

4. Treat your wife to a prenatal massage in Boracay.

If your standard of relaxation and amazing views is Boracay but you have to miss the nightlife and the adventure rides, husbands may want to treat their pregnant wives to a prenatal massage instead. Just make sure to seek your OB-Gyne's approval.

Remember, a babymoon should offer expecting parents a precious chance to connect before the arrival of their little one. Whether it's a local getaway or a luxurious trip, investing in this special time is invaluable. So, if you're expecting, consider a babymoon before parenthood officially begins. You deserve it.
