In a candid revelation during a guest appearance on Magandang Buhay alongside her husband, Rich Alvarez, Kyla shared the heartbreaking news of her fifth miscarriage, which occurred just before Christmas last year.

The singer turned emotional as she also admitted that the biggest challenge in their marriage is not being able to give their son, Toby, a sibling. She said, “For us, ‘yung biggest challenge would be giving Toby a sibling. We’ve been struggling for years and years and years.”

Highlighting the recent loss, she further revealed, “It’s been really hard, especially very recent lang ‘yung sa amin eh. Just before Christmas actually I suffered another [miscarriage]. Yun yung biggest challenge.”

Despite the pain, Kyla expressed her gratitude for her family, particularly for Toby, emphasizing the love and support she receives from her husband. She said, “Siguro kaya rin [si Rich] yung binigay sa akin ni Lord kasi I don’t think anyone would love me like the way he loves me or ever will love me. Siya lang talaga yung magmamahal sa akin ng ganito. So I am just really thankful.”

Kyla also has a message for her son, she said, “I just feel so lucky and blessed that we have you, anak. You are an amazing kid. Whether or not magkaroon ka ng sibling or ano–sorry that we couldn’t give it to you. But I love you so much and now, you have all our attention.”

“Ikaw talaga, ikaw yung greatest gift sa amin ng daddy mo. So thank you, Lord, dahil binigay ka Niya sa amin,” she added.

Kyla on her previous miscarriages

Kyla’s first two miscarriages occurred in March and November 2018. In July 2021, she revealed on Instagram that she had her third miscarriage. Along with a black and white photo of herself and her son, Toby, she wrote, “My heart is broken in levels deeper than you may ever have imagined.”

She further said, “Our little angel, please watch over me, your Daddy, and Kuya Toby. Send our hugs and kisses to your 2 siblings in heaven. We love you, our Millie [broken heart emoji].”

In June 2022, she took to Instagram again to share the news of her fourth miscarriage. This time, she chose to post a short video of her doing a bit of a dance while playfully touching her tummy.

In the caption, she wrote, “You have brought me so much joy, even for a few months that I carried you within me.. It was all pure joy.”

“But losing you.. Again.. For the fourth time is unimaginable. I can’t even put my feelings into words,” she then emotionally said.

She then explained in the latter part, saying, “I find it so hard to share my loss because I didn’t tell anyone about our pregnancy. We wanted to share our excitement with our family but later on ended up sharing our grief. I am screaming and crying in my head and I couldn’t tell anyone.”

Nevertheless, she remains hopeful still, “I know things will be okay in the end.”

“I thank God for His presence in my life. I thank God for touching my heart right at this moment. Everyday, I have to intentionally look for just about anything that’ll make me happy.

“I have to constantly remind myself that God has already placed people in my life to love–people that I need in life. He has blessed me with the best ones to love and love me back. Everything else is just a bonus…Lord, have it your way. I surrender all my hurt to you.”

At the time, she told her child, “And to you, my little one.. I party for you. I hope you’ve felt how much we longed for you, prayed for you and how much we love you..”

In a previous interview with Ogie Diaz, Kyla also said how much they wanted another child, a sibling for Toby, “Medyo heartbreaking po yun kasi. Sobrang gustong-gusto na namin masundan si Toby. Tsaka gusto niya [Toby] ng kapatid talaga…I’m not sure nga po if we made the right decision. Actually, naiisip ko na dapat ko bang i-regret na nag-wait kami too long na sundan si Toby.

“Nag-treatment kami and all that. We went to the doctors. Hindi pa rin,” Kyla revealed.

On losing her babies, Kyla summarized her emotions by saying, “Mahirap po yung feeling ng nawawalan ka…Something that you’ve prayed for, and you’ve hoped for, and you wanted. Tapos bigla na lang—Parang binigay sa’yo tapos kinuha ulit. Tapos you have to go through that over and over.”
