Rich Alvarez penned a sweet birthday greeting for his wife Kyla, who turned 42 on January 5, 2023. They're of the same age, he's just three months older. They have a 9-year-old son, Toby.
"Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife and mother to Toby!!" Rich wrote in the caption of his Instagram post showing two photos of youthful Kyla in a black tank top, blue jeans, and sneakers.
"We love you so much! "Thank you for always pushing us to be better and wanting more in our lives."
The former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player and coach went on posing a question to the singer and TV host: "We’ve been together so long there’s only one thing I want to know… what’s your secret?
"How come we’ve been together almost half our lives and I’m the only one aging in this relationship? Please tell me your secret. I promise I won’t tell anyone. Hahahaha!
"I love you!!!Thank you for making the happiest and luckiest person in the world!! Happy Birthday Sweetheart!"
Kyla acknowledged her husband's greeting in the comments section with a simple reply: "Hahaha! Thank you, my love!!!"
How to look young and fresh
Based on one of Kyla's own posts, in which she shared a photo of her and Rich's first meeting back in 2004, the petite singer with a powerful voice didn't age much. They became a couple later that year of 2004, got married in 2011, and had their unico hijo in 2013.
Checking out more of Kyla's posts reveal clues on why she looks so young and fresh:
Practice self-care
"Think of it as a gentle art of loving yourself," as she puts it. One way she practices it is by going to a beauty clinic and following a skincare routine.
Choose happiness
That's her message on her own birthday post, using the same photo her husband shared. She's "just happy to be spending time" with her family, which includes her parents, siblings, and pamangkins.
She points out, "There are some days you feel beautiful, some days you don’t. Just smile. It helps you get happy :) Always remember, you are worth it. You are strong. You deserve to be happy. And you can fight whatever you’re going through."
Have a grateful heart
For instance, she's "grateful always for the chances I’m given to sing," thus her posts on her live performances and TV appearances. She's one of the judges on the "Tawag ng Tanghalan" singing competition segment of ABS-CBS's It's Showtime.
Be calm and live life queen size
She is unperturbed in reaching her goals and enjoying the fruits of her labor.
Promote positivity
Every now and then, she makes this shout-out online: "Just want to send good vibes to anyone who needs it right now. Things will work out. God has your back."
Kyla herself never loses her faith, hope, and optimism despite suffering setnacks, such as an "unimaginable" fourth miscarriage (read here).
