  • For most women who have just given birth, getting back to their pre-baby body can take a long time. This is the reality, and yet moms cannot help but put themselves under intense pressure to lose their pregnancy weight.

On her Instagram account, mom and vlogger Dani Barretto got real about her “mom bod” — a body that has gone through pregnancy and childbirth. She posted side-by-side photos of her two months after giving birth and how she looks now.

“This was a loooooong and painful journey and I’m not done yet. You have no idea how many times I cried in front of the mirror because my clothes don’t fit me anymore, or how hideous I thought I looked,” she writes.

Dani, who gave birth in September 2019, shared that it was her daughter who eventually made her realize that she should be proud of her body. “Then, I caught myself in between a breakdown one morning, because I heard my daughter’s laugh from downstairs.

“I remembered what matters the most. All my insecurities just faded away. The weight I can lose, Millie needs a healthy momma, physically, and mentally.”

Those who follow Dani’s account would see that the mom started working out religiously in March 2021. In one of her posts, she shared that she is at her lightest since giving birth to Millie — from 154lbs, she’s already managed to lose around 10 pounds.

As she has come to accept her mom bod, Dani also shared a special message to fellow moms who are facing the same struggles. “YOU ARE ENOUGH. You birthed a beautiful baby in this world, you’re a superwoman!

“Never forget how strong you are. Keep going and never give up. You got this!” She also added the hashtag, #MomBodAndProud to her post.

Pregnancy and childbirth are superior feats, so don’t punish yourself just because you don’t look a certain way after going through these life-changing events. Every woman will have different experiences and the journey to self-love, respect, and body acceptance is harder for some.

The first step is always to be kinder to yourself. You did an amazing job bringing new life to this world, so embrace your body for all its imperfections!
