Maybe you've tried at least once, attempted a few times, or thought all the time about losing weight. But you just end up getting frustrated, discouraged, or unmotivated. Take heart because, as the saying goes, you can always try again and again until you succeed.

For starters, you have to work on your self-efficacy, said Dr. Kent Bradley, who also has a Master in Public Health (MPH) and Master of Business Administration (MBA). He explained that the concept of self-efficacy, as developed by renown psychologist Albert Bandura, is confidence in one simple term.

"If you’re not confident, you’re not gonna necessarily be brave enough to make a change," he pointed out during a recent media event organized by Herbalife Nutrition. He works as chief health and nutrition officer, as well as chairman of the Nutrition Advisory Board in the global brand of meal replacements, nutritional supplements, and skin care products.

After building your confidence and deciding, once and for all, to lose weight, you can heed Dr. Bradley's suggestions to increase your chances of succeeding this time around.

1. Take an honest look at your diet.

The typical diet today is replete with calories but lacking in nutrients, the Dr. Bradley said. "So we recommend getting educated in basic understanding of the nutrients."

2. Set a realistic goal to improve your diet.

"My suggestion is to follow our nutrition philosophy," the nutrition expert said. "If you’ll have carbs, don’t go for those that don’t give much nutritional value." So, you may have to reconsider drinking sodas or sweetened drinks and eating pastries or sweets. Instead, opt for whole fruits and veggies, but without the syrup or sauce.

3. Make a plan on achieving your goal.

In preparing your food, for instance, prioritize those that are rich in protein, macronutrients, and  fiber. Those are needed to ensure your cells get amino acids and you don't get hungry as often as before. He recommended having a meal replacement that is loaded with nutrients yet low in calories.

If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, though, you have to talk to your ob-gyn first before taking the meal replacement. Better yet, bring the product itself on your checkup and discuss with your ob-gyn on how the product can support your health.

Dr. Bradley also recommended hydration and exercise to include in your plan of losing weight.
