When Sheena Halili shared, on Instagram, some snaps and videos from her recent vacation in Palawan with her husband Jeron Manzanero and their one-year-old daughter Martina, she devoted one post for herself wearing a black two-piece swimsuit and a white cover-up shirt.
The actress then posed an observation and a question in the caption: "People have been talking about what kind of swimsuits moms should wear and why is that?"
She went on pointing out, "There shouldn't be a 'one size fits all' when you're dressing as a mom. As long as you're comfortable in it--no matter how much skin you're showing (or not!) you should go on and wear it!"
Moms experiencing body shaming
Sheena was apparently alluding to the general mindset what moms should be wearing certain a way, such as conservatively without revealing much skin. Some of her fellow celebrity moms have been targets of body shaming online.
Geneva Cruz, for instance, has been criticized for wearing skimpy swimwear, even on the beach doing water sports.
The singer, actress, and mom of two's response, in a nutshell: "I will wear a swimsuit on the beach or at home if I want to. NO ONE SHOULD BE SHAMED for wearing proper swimwear.”
Geneva's cousin Sunshine Cruz has had similar experiences, with netizens calling out her "parang teenager" way of dressing up.
The actress and mom of three pointed out in response, "Kailangan po ba ang attire ko like yours para masabing tama ang suot? I don't think may chart ang attire according to age...Basta happy at confident, go lang po. Walang bawal at masama."
For her part, Jackie Forster had this to say to those giving her hate comments on her body: "I'm not fat, I'm chunky. And I'm secure enough with myself that even with all my stretch marks and cellulite at 42 with 5 children to still dare to wear bikinis!"
