  • There’s no doubt receiving flowers, chocolates, and other gifts on special occasions will make any wife happy, but if you ask the women, you’ll realize it doesn’t take much to win them over. More than the material things, it’s the sweet, little gestures that go a long way, such as easing their load when it comes to caring for the kids (and letting her get more sleep!).

That’s exactly what Dindo Estrella, a 39-year-old entrepreneur did for his wife, Dien Katrina Estrellas’s 34th birthday. He came up with 20 “reward cards” that she can redeem any time! Take a look:

In an email interview with SmartParenting.com.ph, Dien shared that her husband always had a hard time choosing a gift for her. So, she had no expectations at all for her birthday last August 8, especially because they had a huge fight the day before.

“We managed to reconcile that same night to work things out. While we were making amends, I told him that I don’t want anything,” she shares.

To her surprise, she received the digital cards! “I asked him, ‘why these cards?’ He told me that it’s timely that I asked for non-material things. Since we are also in the middle of a pandemic, it would be best to stay at home, be practical, and just do nice things for each other,” Dien says.

Dien says that she’s already “redeemed” two cards: ‘[I’ll] fix it for you, no complaints,’ and the ‘In-charge of kids for one day’ card. She’s looking forward to redeeming the others, and even told Dindo that five cards should have no expiry date. So far, her favorites include:

The mom of two admits that though they’ve been married for nine years already, it was only recently that she discovered about learning each other’s love language to keep the romance alive and effectively communicate your love toward one another.

“When I received the cards, it cut through my heart. It made me cry and appreciate it so much because my love language is quality time. My husband is communicating his love by giving me attention and time,” Dien explains.

“Looking back, I easily got angry when my husband doesn’t give me time. I would normally make ‘papansin’ and proceed to create tension between us that leads to an argument. Then, when he does give me time, simply by asking me out for a date, I would thank him and cherish the time we spent together,” she adds. “

By learning about each other’s love language, Dien says that their relationship has improved a lot. Dindo is more open than before and he feels secure and comfortable with Dien by his side. “It was important that I fill my husband’s love tank,” the mom shares.

True love isn’t measured by material gifts but rather the thoughtful, meaningful gestures that you do for one another. “Not because we are obligated to, but because we are responsible for keeping our vows,” Dien says. “These simple acts of kindness mean everything to our spouse.”
