Lucky are the children who have the opportunity to grow up with their grandparents. Our lolos and lolas are probably the sweetest and the most doting species in the world, and they are of the rare kind.
When my maternal grandfather died, it was my very first experience with death in the family, and it was my very first encounter with grief.
That's why we felt it when Jake Ejercito, mourned the sudden passing of Cannes-winning actress Jaclyn Jose, his daughter Ellie's beloved grandmother.

Jake Ejercito pens a tribute to Jaclyn Jose
Jake penned a tribute to Jaclyn and shared it on his social media accounts. The actor wrote, "Of her many iconic roles, being a grandmother was one she cherished the most, especially to Ellie."
He added, "I surely wouldn't have survived those early years of fatherhood without your guidance. We rolled with the punches together—anything and everything just for Ellie."
Jake said, Jaclyn's death left a void in Ellie's heart, and vowed that he would give it his best shot to attempt to fill for the rest of their days.
"Maraming salamat sa lahat, tita. You were loved, specially by your Ellie," he concluded.
Jake Ejercito shares old message from Jaclyn Jose
On Thursday, March 7, Jake shared another screenshot of her past conversation with Jaclyn, which proves how the actress was very supportive of him.
"You are doing well," it reads. "Merry galing! Pinapanood ko you are doing so well. Congrats! Job well done!"
How Jaclyn Jose loved her grandchildren
Jaclyn's Instagram account is proof of how she loves and adores her grandchildren so much.
In one of Jaclyn's last posts on her Instagram account, she shared a photo of Ellie to greet her on her birthday in 2022.
"Happy Birthday my life.. I love you so much.." she wrote.

In her birthday post for Ellie in 2021, Jaclyn expressed that she is proud of her apo because she is a kind-hearted little lady.

And all of us could feel her joy when she reunited with her daughter Andi Eigenmann and grandkids back in 2021.

It was during the same year when they spent Christmas together, and took this lovely photo. Andi shared the same photo on her Instagram account, and said that their reunion was the silver lining after Typhoon Odette hit Siargao, where they currently reside.

Ellie, now 12, has also been sharing on her Instagram photos with her beloved lola.
Jaclyn Jose treated Jake Ejercito as her own son
In another post, Jake shared a screenshot of Jaclyn's message to him, saying that she still treats him like her own son.
"Jake na-mi-miss na kita sobra. Anak pa din ang turing ko sa ‘yo. Sorry sa IG kailangan ko lang mamili."
Although Jake and Andi didn't end up together, they remain in a good co-parenting relationship. He even revealed in a recent interview that he is very grateful to Andi's partner, Philmar Alipayo, for treating Ellie as his own.
“Thankful lang din ako sa kanya, kasi syempre, si Ellie, nakatira sa bahay nila, diba. And as a stepfather, I’m sure inaalagaan niya rin si Ellie. Wala naman reklamo si Ellie sa akin about him, so very grateful ako na ganon. Ni hindi ko siya iniisip or pinoproblema. So I’m sure na Ellie is in good hands kay Philmar.”
Aside from Ellie, Jaclyn left behind two more grandchildren with Andi, Lilo and Koa. She died of heart attack on March 2, Saturday morning. She was 60.
Jaclyn Jose, whose real name is Mary Jane Guck, is the first Filipino to win Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for Brillante Mendoza's film, Ma'Rosa, in 2016. She played numerous roles in movies and TV. Her last appearances were in ABS-CBN's series FPJ's Batang Quiapo, and the movie Broken Hearts Trip in 2023.
