  • Winwyn Marquez is on her third trimester, and she remains in awe of the whole process of pregnancy.

"Naa-amaze pa rin ako sa changes sa body," she says in her vlog. "Ang galing ng katawan ng babae!"

The actress, dancer, and beauty queen goes on recalling her experiences for the last few months. She begins by saying that she and her partner were taken by surprise by her first pregnancy, that's why she was already on her 7th week when she took the test.

Winwyn recalls coming home from a lock-in taping for the noontime show Eat Bulaga! around mid-2021, when she had a "kutob" that she could be pregnant. So she took the home pregnancy test, twice.

"To my surprise, it was positive. The first one I called was my ob. Siyempre nagulat din ang ob. Because may mga pinagdaanan din ako. Because I had endometrioma. I had PCOS already," she says, referring to the gynecological diseases she's consulted her obstetrician about.

"We didn’t expect," Winwyn adds, on behalf of her partner. "We were trying, but we weren’t expecting. I was taking meds, there were complications. Nagulat kami, pero my ob told me to take an ultrasound, just to be sure...So when I went to the ob with my partner. Doon na naging sure lahat. We were so happy."

    Pregnancy symptoms

Winwyn notes that the pregnancy symptoms were taking a toll on her body: "Super bad talaga—nausea, hilo, heartburn. I felt everything...My boobs hurt so much. Pero hindi halata sa body ko, slim-slim pa ako. I wasn’t looking for food. I just wanted to lay down. Heartburn talaga. I don’t know why. I stopped coffee, and lahat ng bawal."

She then followed her obstetrician's order to take more rest, as she was having "a little bit of spotting. She also started taking vitamin C and folic acid.

Winwyn's pregnancy symptoms continued till her second trimester. But, she says, she had "a little more energy" and "medyo nawala na ang pagsusuka." When she'd have heartburn and dizzying spells, she says she'd have ice chips and small frequent meals.

Around this time, she remembers eating more, especially rice for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She also took fancy with some food items that she didn't care before, such as vinegar and pickles, plus breakfast fare hotdog, tocino, tuyo, corned beef.

Now on her final stretch, Winwyn says she gets tired so easily, goes to the bathroom to pee frequently, and is having a hard time sleeping on her back.

She also experiences the so-called pregnancy brain, saying, "I tend to forget a lot of things. I’m so clumsy. Even the names of brands na kilalang-kilala ko, bigla kong nalilimutan. My cellphone. Nagfa-fog ang brain ko. Minsan nasa akin pala ang susi."

Anothing pregnancy symptom that the Reina Hispanoamericana 2017 beauty titlist experiences is Braxton hicks, also known as false labor. To ease this common discomfort, she says she just tries to relax herself. She then cautions her fellow preggos to consult their ob-gyn when the hardening of the tummy gets out of the ordinary.

She has the same advice when taking additional vitamins, like she added iron and calcium supplements. For stretch marks, she's been using several lotion, cream, and oil.

    Confessions of a pregnant woman

Winwyn admits, "I’m struggling, especially when I meet people, sinasabi nila sa ’kin, ‘Oh, ang liit ng tummy mo,’ ‘Are you really pregnant?’ [Or now] ‘Ang laki mo na.’ Every time they see me, and ’yun ang sinasabi nila, napapa-praning ako. 'Is there something wrong with me? Is there something wrong with my baby?

"When I talk to my ob, ’yun ang mga tanong ko. She reminds me na as long as your baby is healthy and right weight and right size. Iba-iba naman ang katawan ng pregnant woman, and we don’t have to worry about that. Iba-iba ang shape naming pregnant.

"Sana pag nakikita nila kami, I hope hindi ’yung ang una nilang sasabihin. Kasi minsan napa-praning ako. That’s why on social media, I tend to ready accounts na positive talaga, ’yung mga sinasabi, na makakatulong sa akin mentally. Siyempre kinakabahan, natatakot na rin ako."

She confesses, "’Yun ang ini-struggle ko sometimes, nago-overthink ako. Sabi ng partner ko, as long as okay lahat, sabi ng ob ko, ‘yun na lang ang iisipin ko."

Thankfully, Winwyn says the baby girl in my tummy is "very active," like the fetus is doing gymnastics or boxing. She exclaims, "Sobrang saya n’ya after ko kumain. I love feeling her in my tummy."
