Yasmien Kurdi Welcomes Second Child Via C-Section, ‘I Chose To Do Whatever It Took To Get My Baby Out Healthy And Safe’

Yasmien Kurdi and her husband, Rey Soldevilla, have welcomed their second child. The actress shared the news along with actual photos of the birth.

“I wanted to have VBAC or normal delivery this time on my 2nd pregnancy,” Yasmien wrote. “After [a] series of tests nalaman namin na manipis pa din pala ang CS scar ko even after 11 years–not a good indication. [Hindi] na namin itinuloy because of many high-risk possible scenarios and we opted for CS the day I [went into labor]. We also found out during the procedure that the baby had a cord coil. It actually was a good call that we opted CS because if we tried VBAC we would have ended up doing CS still.”

Yasmien also expressed her gratitude towards her medical team and shared how her experience highlighted the life-saving nature of C-sections, especially in cases like hers. She said, “A #Cesarean (C-Section) is a life saving procedure for women like me. I chose to do whatever it took to get my baby out healthy and safe! I would like to thank my doctors, Dra. Judy Ann Uy De Luna, Dr. Placido, Dr. Marzo and to all the doctor and nurses who assisted during my #CSProcedure [praying hand emoji]. Yasmien’s dragon baby

Yasmien announced her second pregnancy on Instagram last November 20, 2023, sharing photos of herself, her husband, and eldest child, 11-year-old Ayesha Zara. In the post, the 34-year-old actress also revealed that her new baby is the “3rd dragon in the family.” Based on their Chinese zodiac signs, Yasmien was born in the Year of the Earth Dragon (1989), while Ayesha was born in the Year of the Water Dragon (2012).

In April, Yasmien revealed that they are expecting a girl when she posted a gender reveal video using a “burn away cake” she baked herself. The video then showed Yasmien cutting the cake to reveal pink-colored sprinkles inside, with her family cheering on. The actress also revealed that the same video was taken down on Facebook and Instagram due to bullying and harassment. At the time, Yasmien lamented, “Hindi ko maintindihan kung bakit offensive na ang ganitong mga bagay ngayon, at ang kalaswaan tulad ng paghuhubad at pagmumura etc ay tanggap ng tanggap.” The video is still up on TikTok.

What is VBAC

VBAC stands for Vaginal Birth After Cesarean. It’s a term applied to women who successfully undergo a vaginal delivery following a cesarean delivery in a prior pregnancy. However, there are certain conditions for a mother who has had a previous CS delivery to be an excellent candidate for VBAC, such as:

• The previous C-Section had a low transverse uterine incision, more popularly known as the “bikini cut.”
• The reason for the previous C-Section delivery is not present in the current pregnancy, which include complications such as the baby being in a breech position, placenta previa, or pre-eclampsia.
• The mother has had enough time to heal since the last pregnancy.
• The mother has only had one C-Section delivery.
• The mother has no pre-existing medical condition such as heart disease, diabetes, or hypertension.
