  • Coming home after back-to-back family vacation trips, Elisse Josson fell slightly ill with sore throat, cough, and cold. At the same time, her partner Mccoy de Leon had canker sores (singaw) in his mouth. Later on, their daughter Felize developed a fever, with a bit of cough and cold.

The actress turned to these home remedies to treat her symptoms:

    • Drinking warm calamansi juice with honey "para maging better ang sore throat ko"
    • Suob and sauna "para pagpawisan"
    • Taking vitamin supplements

Elisse felt well enough to continue her mommy duties, like feeding and giving vitamin drops to Felize. She also helped Mccoy apply medicine on his singaw. Both of them brought their daughter for her regular checkups and vaccines.

The following day, Elisse narrated how her baby became unwell, too.

"Kanina, iyak nang iyak si Felize," the first-time mo said her vlog. "Sobra siya, parang in pain kasi hindi niya malabas ’yung pupu niya. Parang ang tigas ng pupu niya. Kaya iyak lang siya ng iyak."

She added, "We didn’t know if it’s because of the injections she got yesterday. Eh ang sabi ng doctor, she might have a fever within the next couple of days. So sabi namin baka iyon ’yon.

"At the same time, napansin namin na hindi siya makaire at hirap siya maka-poop. So we tried to give her the suppository for babies. After no’n, mas naginhawaan siya and nailabas niya ’yong poop niya. So she felt better."

Elisse went on what she and Felize's yaya did to comfort the baby: "Other than the suppository na ginawa namin, pinainom namin siya ng paracetamol. But since kakadede niya lang ngayon and since iyak siya nang iyak, she just ended up throwing it up. Nag-vomit siya, so nilabas niya din ’yung gamot.

"Earlier, mainit siya. Hanggang ngayon, mainit siya. Minsan ang hirap sa baby kasi iyak lang sila nang iyak. Hindi mo alam kung ano ang masakit sa kanila kasi di pa nila masabi in words. So the best thing to do is not panic. Not panic like daddy. Si daddy kasi pag nakitang umiiyak si Felize, panic agad. Pero that just shows that he really cares."

When morning came, Elisse said Felize still wasn't feelng well. She had difficulty giving vitamin drops to her baby, but she did better feeding her baby avocado.

Later on, Elisse shared some good news: "Now we’re on our way to feeling better!"

She narrated, "Si Felize may lagnat in the beginning. But naagapan naman din...She’s now masigla, and she’s very playful. Pero meron pa rin siyang konting ubo, nabawasan na ang sipon niya, ’yung plema niya, malambot na. She’s drinking a lot of water and fluids, which helps a lot.

"Ako naman, natuto na ’ko, magva-vitamins na ako ulit. I have to take care of my health in order to be able to take care of Felize. I learned a couple of things sa journey na ito."

    First-time mom's realizations

Elisse shared what she's learned from being sick along with her child:

Don't hesitate to ask for help

"Maraming tao ang nakapaligid sa atin mga mommies na handang tumulong. We have our partner. Meron akong Mccoy, who took care of me para maalagaan ko si Felize. He also took care of Felize as well pag hindi ko kinakaya.

"Luckily, we are blessed to have our yayas here, who helped us as well, and our familes, of course, na handang tumulong any time we need them. Sa kanila din namin nakuha ’yung ibang mga tips kung paano mapagaan ang pakiramdam ni baby sa kanya-kanya nilang pamamaraan.

"So we are grateful to have people around us to care for Felize and us. So meron talagang tutulong. I know we, mommies, we want to be superwoman, but when we are sick and we are also in need, let us let them help us."

There are different ways to care for our children

"Maraming ways and iba-ibang pamamaraan kung paano natin aalagaan ang ating mga anak. Let’s get these helpful tips and let’s try it, and absorb it. But at the end of the day, each baby is different, so depende sa anak natin. Makikilala talaga natin sila, and meron silang own way on how to feel better."

    Never neglect our own health

"Ang mga anak natin ang inaasikaso natin, na tayo, ‘okay na ’yan.’ ’Yun ang lagi nating bukam-bibig at times, but in the long run, tayo rin ang mababayad. So ayun: vitamins, water, and rest. Pag may time tayong mag-rest, grab natin ’yung opportunity to rest."

In closing, Elisse said in reflection: "I’m happy that we went through this as a family, and na-enjoy ko naman to get to know Felize better and next time, at least I’ll know what to do para mas mapabilis ko ang paggaling ni baby."
