She also asked her followers to pray as she's prepping for another round of injections and medications. "Hopefully, we'll be able to harvest more and healthier oocytes," she added.
What is Egg Freezing?
Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, is a multi-step process in which a woman's eggs are extracted and preserved for future use. The procedure involves stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs, which are then retrieved and frozen for later fertilization.
Egg Freezing vs. IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)
When it comes to fertility preservation, many people may wonder about the differences between egg freezing and IVF. While both methods offer solutions for individuals looking to preserve their reproductive options, they are distinct procedures.
Johns Hopkins Medicine states, egg freezing is "the exact same process as in vitro fertilization." "The only difference is that after egg retrieval, the eggs are stored rather than fertilized."
So, while both egg freezing and IVF involve fertility preservation, egg freezing preserves a woman's unfertilized eggs for future use, whereas IVF involves fertilizing the eggs with sperm and storing the resulting embryos for potential implantation.
Who Should Consider Egg Freezing?
Egg freezing is a viable option for women who want to preserve their fertility for the future. Whether for career reasons, health conditions like cancer or PCOS, or unexpected circumstances such as early menopause, egg freezing offers a way to take control of reproductive health.
As women age, the quality and quantity of their eggs naturally decline, which can increase the risk of miscarriage, birth complications, or decrease the chances of pregnancy. To counter this, egg freezing has become an appealing option for women looking to extend their fertility window. However, it’s crucial for each woman to consult with a trusted fertility specialist to understand the potential benefits and risks before making the decision to undergo the procedure.
