We've published several articles on why parents should let their toddler kids get messy and how it's perfectly normal to have an untidy home if you have kids. However, there are some people who will never get it until they experience it for themselves.
To clear the air, Rica Peralejo Bonifacio, mom of two boys and Smart Parenting's first-ever celebrity editor-at-large, answered this again on a video, (she already explained this and even gave a home tour in a vlog).
One netizen wanted to confirm with Rica what she's been told regarding her house that is "laging magulo." To which she responded, without sugarcoating, "This is super true."
She then gave three reasons why this is so, and we couldn't agree more.

Why Rica Peralejo has a messy home
1. She wants to let her kids be kids
Rica has two sons, Philip, 9, and Manu, 3, and that's the primary reason why her house is filled with Legos and toys everywhere. "I've got small kids in this house and they are both boys, I just let them play whole day, tsaka na namin nililigpit pag matutulog na, sometimes kinabukasan na pag sobrang pagod, pero im not very particular with making the house super neat because I feel like this is the stage of our life right now."
She added, "I want my kids to move, I want them to keep playing with their things, and not feel like, "Ay, hindi ako pwede magkalat kasi ayaw ng nanay ko."

2. She wants to give her kids the opportunity to learn to tidy up by themselves
She explains, having a clean and tidy home is achievable, however, she would have to hire an additional helper.
"Pwede din naman talagang maayos siya lagi. However, kailangan kong maghire ng more staff," she said.
They have one helper at home, and what keeps Rica from hiring another helper, aside from budget constraint, is this: "Belief ko din talaga, na pag dumadami yung staff mo, hindi na-e-encourage na magligpit o mag-ayos yung mga anak mo." She explains, "Kasi kakagulo lang nila may nag-aayos na. Feeling nila in their heads, "Magic!
To add, parents at the Smart Parenting Village believe that encouraging more playtime is better than giving your kids screen time.
3. She considers her messy home a "sign of life"
Most parents would agree with Rica on this, that they would rather have a messy home because it means her kids are not sick, and they are playing than have a quiet one.
We can totally relate, Rica! Time flies so fast. Even cleanliness guru Marie Kondo has given up on tidying her home after three kids! Read here.
Next time you visit your mom friend's house and you see that it's messy, don't judge them. You can either offer to help them clean up, or gift them these organizing stuff, or better yet, play with the kids and let the mom rest for a bit.
